Overview
ASTEC-X enables PCs running Windows XP/2000 to call up UNIX windows and applications, adding a virtual UNIX workstation to your desktop PC.
ASTEC-X's personalities bring the same simple magic to your network. No matter how diverse your computing platforms are, they will all dance in harmony in the perfect environment of the multi-talented ASTEC-X. It is extremely stable and multi-lingual capable. Moreover, ASTEC-X's flexibility allows you to work across Intel and DEC Alpha machines with Windows XP/2000, Windows Me/98/95 or Windows NT operating system.

- ASTEC-X supports various mice supported by the OS.
If the mouse is recognized as three-button by the OS, it will be treated as three-button mouse by X, too. If the mouse has only two buttons, the middle button emulation is available by pushing both buttons simultaneously. - Display and Colors
- ASTEC-X supports various resolutions and number of colors supported by the OS;
- 16 colors (Static color visual for X)
- 256 colors (Pseudo color visual for X)
- 32768, 65536, 16.7 million colors and TrueColor (True color visual for X)
- Network Cards
- ASTEC-X supports TCP/IP protocol stack bundled with the OS and works with various network cards supported by the protocol stack.
- Fonts

- Local Fonts
- ASTEC-X supports various X fonts including PCF, Speedo, and Type1 formats on the local hard disk or the network drive. Compressed fonts (compressed by UNIX's "compress" command) is also supported.
- Font Server
- ASTEC-X can connect to the font servers running on UNIX host and use their fonts.
- TrueType Fonts
- The TrueType fonts of Windows can be used as scalable fonts of X. The rotation and other transformation is available as well as specifying the size of the fonts freely. If the Japanese TrueType font is available, it can be used as JIS-encoded X font, which is X's standard.
- Window Mode
- ASTEC-X supports four different window modes;
- Multi-window Mode
- X applications and Windows applications are co-existing on the desktop.
- Single Window Mode
- A window in Windows will be a screen of X. The window management is done by the window manager running on a UNIX host. You can use familiar window managers like mwm, olwm and twm.
- Full Screen Mode
- All of the display becomes X's screen and no Windows application is visible. You can switch between X and Windows environments by clicking the "Return" window which is always shown.
- Virtual Screen Mode
- You can scroll through various parts of the virtual screen using the scroll bars. The virtual screen can be as large as 32768 x 32768 pixels.
- Miscellaneous Features

ASTEC-X supports XDMCP and rexec/rsh
and you can get UNIX login window by just clicking ASTEC-X icon.
ASTEC-X provides rexec/rsh protocol. Using rexec/rsh, you can invoke and any X application by clicking an icon on Windows.
